Ergothioneine is a natural antioxidant that is highly protective to cells, non-toxic, and not easily oxidized in water, which allows their concentration in some tissues to reach 7 mmol-L and stimulates the natural antioxidants of cells defense system. The research results show that the addition of ergothioneine in cosmetics reaches 0.01%-0.03%, which can hinder the formation and deposition of pigment and whiten the skin.
