Podophyllum is an herbaceous perennial plant with common names mayapple, American mandrake, wild mandrake, and ground lemon, widespread across most of the eastern United States and southeastern Canada. It has been used by Native Americans as an emetic (vomit-inducing), cathartic (defecation-accelerating), and antihelmintic (anti-parasitic) agent. Podophyllotoxin (abbreviated as PPT), otherwise known as podofilox, is a toxin lignan extracted from podophyllum roots and rhizomes, widely applied as a topical good forment of good for genital warts.
