Tetraenoestrone, also known as allylgestrin (altrenogest), is a synthetic oral progestin.Altrenogest (A35957, RU2267) is a progestogen structurally related to the veterinary steroid. It is a synthetic trienic C21 steroidal progestin belonging to the 19-nortestosterone class. It is an orally active progestogen. As with all steroids, altrenogest acts through its lipid solubility which allows it to penetrate into target cells and then bind to specific receptors. In veterinary medicine, altrenogest is used to synchronise estrus in mares and sows.

Applications
In clinical practice, tetraenylestradiol is mainly used to regulate the oestrous cycle in pigs and horses, to promote simultaneous oestrus as well as to maintain pregnancy, etc., and in other animals such as cheetahs, zebra cats, zebras, dolphins and so on.
