This product is the calcium salt of l-5-methyltetrahydrofolate, which belongs to the folate family of vitamins (Vitamin B9, Folic Acid), which is a coenzyme form of folic acid. l-5-methyltetrahydrofolate calcium (5-mth, the naturally occurring salt-forming methyl derivative form of folic acid, 5-mthf is also known as levomethylfolate, which is the most biologically active and functional form of folic acid, and is much more readily absorbed than regular folic acid.
L-5-methyltetrahydrofolate calcium is widely used as a derivative of tetrahydrofolate, and has been determined by the U.S. FDA to be generally safe for use in food additives and pharmaceutical additives.
